Mr. CHEUNG Chun Hoi

Assistant Professor of Practice
School of Chinese Medicine - Clinical Division

As an alumnus of the School of Chinese Medicine who began his career in 2012 in the Teaching and Research Division as a Technical Instructor, Mr. Cheung Chun Hoi has been promoted to his current role as Assistant Professor of Practice and Associate Director in the Clinical Division. During his tenure, he has shown steadfast dedication to providing top-quality service to his students, patients and the community at large.

Despite his busy teaching schedule, Mr. Cheung has continued to provide clinical consultations as a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioner in orthopedics, treating patients with joint diseases and bone pains. Serving the community with heart, he believes in actively reaching out to the needy people, rather than waiting for them to seek medical attention.

In his bid to bring TCM to the underprivileged people in the community, under the supervisors’ supervision, he led his team to collaborate with the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui to secure a donation of HK$21,000,000 from the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited for the 3-year BOC-HKBU Chinese Medicine Community Stroke Prevention and Rehabilitation Scheme. The generous donation goes towards providing treatment and rehabilitation for post-stroke patients and minimising the incidence of strokes among the elderly through community education. This programme has become an international success, winning the Finalist Award in the 7th Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards in 2019.

During the pandemic, Mr. Cheung spearheaded several HKBU initiatives to assist in the fight against COVID-19. In his role as Associate Team Leader in the HKBU Chinese Medicine Team Against COVID-19, he assisted in the establishment of the telemedicine centre, which provided free consultation to patients and their close contacts. The service benefited more than 41,000 individuals and over 170,000 doses of medication were prescribed. In March 2022, he followed the team to lead a group of practitioners and students to provide Chinese medicine-based treatment services to the elderly patients who were the COVID-19 cases at the Kai Tak Holding Centre. He participated in organizing the Long COVID Chinese Medicine Rehabilitation Programme. He was the clinical research team members in the corresponding research. In view of his excellent service and significant leadership, Mr. Cheung was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation by the Youth Anti-Coronavirus Link.

Furthermore, Mr. Cheung has been actively involved in the establishment and design of the Chinese Medicine Hospital, with participation in a variety of planning groups. He has also contributed to the development of the TCM industry by serving on committees in the public and NGO sectors. To name a few of these appointments, he is a member of the Registration Committee and the Disciplinary Committee and Registration Committee of the Chinese Medicine Council of Hong Kong, and a member of the Chinese Medicines Industry Subcommittee of the Chinese Medicine Development Committee. He is also engaged in conversations on the ways in which Chinese medicines can assist the people of Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area.

With remarkable achievements of enormous benefit not only to the School of Chinese Medicine but also to the University and the community at large, the Selection Committee would like to commend Mr. Cheung’s passion and professionalism by bestowing on him the President’s Award for Outstanding Performance in Service.
